Bali Sankirtan Festival

Temples, ashrams and spiritual centres was established in courage to develop spirituality among Hindu Balinese since centuries ago by numerous Rishis. Nowadays, Sri Sri Radha Rasesvara Ashram is one among many temples in Bali, was built by combine efforts of ISKCON devotees in Bali. Surrounding by trees, far from rushing town, create peaceful mood in our heart, perfectly depicting ancient Rishi’s temple and monastery.

Situated in Desa Sibang Kaja, Darmasabha, this temple officially inaugurated on 12 December 1999 by The Head of Badung Regency which represented by The Regent Assistance, Kompyang R. Swandika, SH. Ribbon cutting “rite” as a symbol of entering newly inaugurated temple performed by Madam Gedong Bagoes Oka, one of Balinese Hindu leader, the Chief of Pasraman Gandhi Santi Dasa, and also a representative of Hindu in MPR RI (Indonesian Legislative Member). She was a charismatic personage in Balinese Hindu society, also a leading member of World Hindu Conference and United Religion Initiative, a friend to our ISKCON guru, Sripada Bhaktisvarupa Damodara Swami Maharaja. Some dignitaries from government authorities and religious institutions as important guest also giving speech on that occasion, including Madam Gedong Bagoes Oka herself, Putu Alit Bagiasna (Hindu youth leader), Drs. I Ketut Wiana (The Vice Chairman of Indonesian Hindu Dharma Parisadh) and Kompyang R. Swandika, SH, representing the government of Badung Regency. The inauguration ceremony had also attended by local village chiefs of Abiansemal and Sibang Gede, well-wishers from various spiritual groups in Bali and members of ISKCON.

The inauguration of Sri Sri Radha Rasesvara Ashram happily welcomed by all part of Hindu society in Bali, expecting to be one of learning centre based on Veda Vedanta view point for the Hindu community especially to the spiritually interested peoples.

Sri Sri Radha Rasesvara was a manifested from desire and order of ISKCON spiritual master H.D.G. Srila Gour Govinda Swami Maharaja. On the year of 1995, he visited Bali to preach Krishna Consciousness and give spiritual guide for the devotees.

The temple itself have fulfilled minimal standard as said in Veda. Their Lordships Sri Sri Radha Rasesvara, Sri Sri Gaura Nitai and Sri Sri Jagannath Baladeva and Subhadra Devi were the presiding deities of the ashram. Manifested as three sets of deities, The Supreme Personality of Godhead attract and strengthen admire and faith of bhakta by Their divine beauty. The main deities are Sri Sri Radha Rasesvara (Rasa-isvara) – Sri Krishna as the supreme enjoyer and master of all type of bhakti rasa – especially His devotees’ prema rasa.

Sri Sri Radha Rasesvara and Gaura Nitai deity-forms was voluntary donated by Mataji Kamalalaya Radha devi dasi, a devotee wife of one government lawyer (Mr. Cokorda Rama, SH), and Sri Sri Jagannath Baladev and Subhadra devi donated by Sriman Chaitanya Chandra dasa from Orissa. The Prana Pratistha and maha abhiseka of the deities was performed on 11 December 1999. This ceremony was leaded by our ISKCON spiritual master H.D.G. Sripada Bhaktisvarupa Dhamodara Swami Maharaja and Sriman Caitanya Chandra dasa.

Srila Prabhupada said in His letter to Cidananda on December 15th, 1969, “Sankirtana and distributing Back To Godhead and our other literatures is the fieldwork of this movement. Temple worship is secondary. People are invited to come to the temple to see the behaviour of the devotees specifically in the matter of purification. There are two kinds of purification methods, external and internal. In our Krishna consciousness movement, Deity worship helps to keep us externally purified and sankirtana helps to keep us internally purified. So as far as possible we shall execute both of these processessimultaneously. And by your exemplary character, the general mass of people will be benefited. Our hearts in material condition are filled with all dirty things, and this Krishna consciousness movement is the cleansing process.”

Thus, we are calling all of you to join us in 10th Anniversary of the Arrival of Sri Sri Radha Rasesvara. Together we will glorify the glories of Sri Sri Radha Rasesvara, in order to get His divine glance and mercy so our heart will be cleansed from all the material desires and improve our spiritual life.
